For our chord of the day, the chord is a G7(9)no root chord just like Chord #101. It can be most readily analyzed as a Dmin6 chord though I like to view it as an inversion of B-7(b5). For the musical example, the 16th note line that flows on the first two beats leads into the B note on beat three and then the remaining notes of the voicing.
I love using open voicings as a basis for melodic ideas since it gives an opportunity for larger melodic leaps than an exclusively scalar approach.
As an exercise, try to write five different lines that resolve into this voicing or any of the voicings we've discussed. This is a great way to internalize and really get the chords into one's vocabulary.
Enjoy!
