This voicing is the kind of chord I would use in a pop ballad setting. I can also picture myself using it in an arpeggiated guitar part to accompany a singer. The line is a simple melody that can be either from an A natural minor (A aeolian) or A dorian. By avoiding the 6th in the melody, both scales may be possible options.
